Curriculum
This class will give you the skills needed to set up top-rope climbs outdoors.
In the class, you’ll learn how to build bomber anchors, how to approach the edge of a cliff safely when setting up or cleaning an anchor, belay technique, and other skills. You’ll also learn about the different materials available for building anchors and the tradeoffs between them.
We’ll also have a group discussion on what to expect when you show up at a crag — from assessing and managing risk to being a respectful neighbor to other climbers.
We recommend this class for anyone looking to make the transition from gym to outdoor climbing, or for climbers who have been outdoors a handful of times but have questions or are looking to sharpen their skills. Over the years we’ve seen new (and not-so-new) climbers do things that made us worry for their safety. Don’t be that person! The time and money to build a proper foundation of skills are well spent.
Required equipment: Harness and helmet. Rentals available for $10/person (select the rental package at checkout).
